Australia:
Tasmanië
In this film we
visit Tasmania, the most southerly state of Australia. This
island was once connected to the mainland of Australia but at
the end of the last ice-age some 12000 years ago, the
sea-level rose and Tasmania came loose from the rest of the
Australian continent. No other Australian state has so many
natureparks as Tasmania. One third of the island is listed as
treasured naturereserves of Unesco, and we visit some of them
on our trip. We also look around in Hobart, the capital city
of Tasmania where in 1642 the Dutchman Abel Tasman as first
European explored this area. A special experience is Port
Arthur which was well known as one of the most severe
convictcamps of the British Empire, from where not many
prisoners returned alive. In Tiagarra our attention is focused
on a culture centre of the Aboriginals. Here in Tasmania the
Aborigines unfortunately met a violent end. This film will
tell you a story of English looking landscapes, rugged
coastlines, rainforests and fertile riverbeds.
